What is a study timer?

A study timer splits revision into fixed blocks with short breaks between them, so you work in focused stretches instead of one long sitting. In Tapsle, the timer adds one at the end of every block and plays a sound, so the number on screen is the blocks you have finished.

  • Blocks of any length, 10 to 90 minutes
  • A sound when each block ends
  • A daily target, like 4 blocks
  • Pop out above your notes on a computer
Timer mode, in Tapsle

Any counter becomes a study timer.

Open a counter’s settings, switch Counting to Timer and set the schedule. Tapsle adds to the count on every interval, plays your sound, and stops at the target. Pause from the card whenever you need to.

Study timer vs Pomodoro

Pomodoro uses 25 minute rounds with 5 minute breaks. Many students prefer longer blocks for reading or problem sets, such as 50 minutes on and 10 off. Tapsle runs either: set the interval to the block you want, and the count shows how many you have done.

A study timer for exams

In exam season, set one counter per subject and a target for each. The board shows at a glance how many blocks went to maths, history or languages, and pausing never loses a block.

Study timer or a phone timer?

A phone timer rings once. A study timer counts every block and shows how much you did.

Study timer questions

How long should a study block be?

Most people settle between 25 and 50 minutes. Start with 50 minutes on and a 10 minute break, and shorten it if your focus drops before the sound.

Can I track more than one subject?

Yes. Add a counter for each subject with its own target. Free includes one running timer, so start the subject you are working on and pause the others.

Does it keep counting if I close the tab?

The count is saved as it changes. Reopen Tapsle on the same device and your blocks are there. Keep the tab open while a block runs so the sound plays.

Is Tapsle free?

Yes. Unlimited counters, targets, steps, notes, lock, focus mode, pop out and export are free, with no account. Free includes up to 5 groups and 1 counter on a timer. Tapsle Plus adds sync, backups, longer history, shared counters and integrations, for $2.99 a month or $25.99 a year.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once Tapsle has loaded, counting keeps working with no connection, and you can install it on your phone or computer like an app. Your counts are saved on your device as you go.

Can I export my counters?

Yes, free. Export saves every counter to one file, and Import brings them back on any device. Your counts belong to you.

Can I keep the timer on screen while I study?

Yes, on Chrome and Edge on a computer. Choose Pop out and the study timer floats above your notes or slides, with pause inside it. Phones and Safari do not support this, so the button only appears where it works.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your counters stay on your device. There is no account, and nothing is sent to us unless you turn on sync with Tapsle Plus.

What is the difference between Free and Plus?

Free is the counter: unlimited counters, up to 5 groups, 1 timer counter, targets, offline use, export and 7 days of history. Plus is memory: sync across up to 5 devices, nightly backups, 60 days of history with charts, shared counter links, unlimited groups and timers, and integrations. Cancelling Plus never removes a counter.
