What is a classroom timer?

A classroom timer shows students how long an activity has left and signals when to stop, so the teacher does not have to keep calling time. In Tapsle, the timer adds one at the end of each activity and plays a sound, so the number shows which rotation, question or round the class is on.

  • Any activity length, seconds to hours
  • A sound the whole room can hear
  • Full screen on a projector or board
  • Pause when the class needs longer
Timer mode, in Tapsle

Any counter becomes a classroom timer.

Open a counter’s settings, switch Counting to Timer and set the schedule. Tapsle adds to the count on every interval, plays your sound, and stops at the target. Pause from the card whenever you need to.

How to use Tapsle as a classroom timer

  1. 1
Pick a routineStations, Quiz, Silent reading or Group work, or a blank counter.
  2. 2
Set the activity lengthIn the counter settings choose Timer and set how often, for example add 1 every 10 minutes.
  3. 3
Put it on the boardOpen focus mode on the projector. The number is readable from the back of the room.
  4. 4
Stop at the last activitySet a target, like 6 stations, and the timer stops when the last group rotates.

Station rotation, timed

With six groups and six stations, set the interval to 10 minutes and the target to 6. Tapsle sounds at every change, the count shows which rotation you are on, and you are free to walk the room instead of watching a clock.

Quizzes and quiet reading

Set 30 seconds per quiz question and let the count keep the question number. For silent reading, one 20 minute block with a gentle sound at the end is enough. Pause if the class needs a minute more.

Classroom timer or a wall clock?

A wall clock tells students the time. A classroom timer tells them when to move and where they are.

Classroom timer questions

Can students see the timer from the back?

Yes. Open focus mode on the classroom screen and the number fills it. If the projector is dim, try the Light or Dark theme, whichever reads better.

Can I run it on the classroom computer?

Yes. Tapsle works in any modern browser with no install and no account, so it runs on a shared PC without logging in.

Does the sound work through the room speakers?

It plays through whatever the computer uses for sound. Check the volume before class, and pick a target sound such as Bell or Chime for the last activity.

Is Tapsle free?

Yes. Unlimited counters, targets, steps, notes, lock, focus mode, pop out and export are free, with no account. Free includes up to 5 groups and 1 counter on a timer. Tapsle Plus adds sync, backups, longer history, shared counters and integrations, for $2.99 a month or $25.99 a year.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once Tapsle has loaded, counting keeps working with no connection, and you can install it on your phone or computer like an app. Your counts are saved on your device as you go.

Can I export my counters?

Yes, free. Export saves every counter to one file, and Import brings them back on any device. Your counts belong to you.

Can I keep the timer on screen during a presentation?

Yes, on Chrome and Edge on a computer. Choose Pop out and the timer floats above your slides, with pause inside it. Phones and Safari do not support this, so the button only appears where it works.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your counters stay on your device. There is no account, and nothing is sent to us unless you turn on sync with Tapsle Plus.

What is the difference between Free and Plus?

Free is the counter: unlimited counters, up to 5 groups, 1 timer counter, targets, offline use, export and 7 days of history. Plus is memory: sync across up to 5 devices, nightly backups, 60 days of history with charts, shared counter links, unlimited groups and timers, and integrations. Cancelling Plus never removes a counter.

Ready, class. We will keep time.

Free, no account, and every activity is counted.
