What is a mantra counter?

A mantra counter keeps count of each repetition so your attention can stay on the words. Tapsle works for any tradition and any target, marks the moment you reach it, and can reset each morning for a fresh start.

Choosing a target

108 is the most common count, matching the beads of a mala. 21 suits short affirmations, and 1,008 is a traditional larger goal. Some practices count by time rather than number; remove the target and use a timer alongside.

Counting without losing focus

Turn on vibration, on phones that support it, so the target is something you feel rather than watch. Keep the phone face down, and tap with your thumb in a steady rhythm.

Mantra counter or prayer beads?

Beads are tactile and traditional. A digital counter remembers bigger numbers.

Mantra counter questions

Can I set any target?

Yes. Keep 108, choose 1,008, or type any number. You can also remove the target and simply count.

Does it reset every day?

If you turn on daily reset, each counter starts at zero every morning and yesterday is kept in history.

Does it work for any tradition?

Yes. Name the counter after your mantra in any language. Tapsle is available in 18 languages, including right-to-left layouts.

Is Tapsle free?

Yes. Unlimited counters, targets, steps, notes, lock, focus mode, pop out and export are free, with no account. Free includes up to 5 groups and 1 counter on a timer. Tapsle Plus adds sync, backups, longer history, shared counters and integrations, for $2.99 a month or $25.99 a year.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once Tapsle has loaded, counting keeps working with no connection, and you can install it on your phone or computer like an app. Your counts are saved on your device as you go.

Can I use Tapsle for prayer counting?

Yes. Many people use Tapsle as a digital tasbih, rosary, japa mala or mantra counter. Set a target such as 33, 99 or 108 and turn on daily reset.

Can I keep the counter on screen while I work?

Yes, in Chrome and Edge on a computer. Choose Pop out and the counter floats above your other windows, with +1 inside it, so you can chant along with a recording and keep count. Phones and Safari do not support this, so the button only appears where it works.
