What is a stitch counter?

A stitch counter keeps track of how many stitches you have worked, so you do not have to count them again on the needle or hook. In Tapsle you keep one counter for stitches and one for rows, each with its own target and note.

  • One tap per stitch, or a step per repeat
  • A target for stitches in the row
  • Stitches and rows side by side
  • A note for the pattern or repeat

Keep a stitch counter and a row counter for the same project. Set the stitch target to the row length, and write the pattern repeat in the note.

Counting without putting the needles down

Open focus mode and prop the phone beside your yarn. A tap anywhere on the screen counts a stitch, and undo is in the corner if you miscount.

One counter per project

Give each project its own stitch and row counters, and put them in a group such as “Blue scarf”. Free includes 5 groups, and Plus has no limit.

Stitch counter questions

Does the stitch counter save my place?

Yes. Every stitch is saved in your browser straight away, so the count is still there when you come back on the same device, even offline.

Can I count stitches and rows at the same time?

Yes. Add one counter for stitches and one for rows. Each keeps its own number, target and note.

Can I count a pattern repeat in one tap?

Yes. Set the step to the length of the repeat, and each tap adds that many stitches.

Is Tapsle free?

Yes. Unlimited counters, targets, steps, notes, lock, focus mode, pop out and export are free, with no account. Free includes up to 5 groups and 1 counter on a timer. Tapsle Plus adds sync, backups, longer history, shared counters and integrations, for $2.99 a month or $25.99 a year.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once Tapsle has loaded, counting keeps working with no connection, and you can install it on your phone or computer like an app. Your counts are saved on your device as you go.

Can I export my counters?

Yes, free. Export saves every counter to one file, and Import brings them back on any device. Your counts belong to you.

Can I keep the counter on screen while I work?

Yes, on Chrome and Edge on a computer. Choose Pop out and the counter floats above your other windows, with +1 and −1 inside it, so you can count while you read, watch or type. Phones and Safari do not support this, so the button only appears where it works.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your counters stay on your device. There is no account, and nothing is sent to us unless you turn on sync with Tapsle Plus.

What is the difference between Free and Plus?

Free is the counter: unlimited counters, up to 5 groups, 1 timer counter, targets, offline use, export and 7 days of history. Plus is memory: sync across up to 5 devices, nightly backups, 60 days of history with charts, shared counter links, unlimited groups and timers, and integrations. Cancelling Plus never removes a counter.
